What AI Can Do for You Right Now

Wonderfully AI · Updated 2 November 2026

AI is changing quickly, and it can be hard to keep up. So here's a calm, simple look at what everyday AI apps such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini can help you with today. We review this guide regularly and update it as things change.

A little note before we begin: features vary by app, device and plan, and some are only on paid plans. If you can't see something, your app may simply not offer it yet.

1. Have a conversation, by typing or talking

You can ask questions in everyday language, just like sending a message. Many apps also let you speak, and some can talk back, so it feels like chatting with a helpful friend.

2. Snap a photo and ask about it

Take a photo of a plant, a menu in another language, a confusing appliance setting or a letter (with private details removed), and ask what it means.

3. Research and discover

AI can explain things from what it already knows, but that may not be current. Many apps can also search the web for up-to-date information, and some offer a deeper research option that reads many sources and writes a more detailed report. It's wonderful for comparing options, planning a trip or learning something new. Always ask for sources, and check what matters.

4. Set up your own personal helper

You can give AI instructions about how you like things done: your tone, your preferences and what to focus on. Many apps let you save these instructions so your helper is ready each time. Some apps also have a memory feature. Saved instructions and memory are different, and neither guarantees that every conversation will be remembered, so keep your own copy of anything important.

5. Write emails and messages in your own voice

Say what you'd like to reply, in your own words, and AI can turn it into a clear, friendly message. You stay in charge of what's sent.

6. Clear your mind and plan your week

Talk for a minute about everything on your mind, and AI can sort it into today, this week and later. It can also help you plan a calm, realistic week.

7. Work with documents and files

Many apps can read a document you share, summarise it, explain it in plain English or pull out the key points. Before uploading, remove any sensitive details you don't need to share, and check your app's privacy settings.

8. Create pictures and ideas

AI can help you brainstorm, write a poem for a card, suggest a recipe, or create an image from a description, depending on the app.

9. A ready-made assistant for your work

If you work for yourself or run a small business, you can give AI a clear set of instructions so it helps with enquiries, quotes, follow-ups and social posts, in your voice and with safe boundaries.

10. Make your business easier to find and understand online

AI can help you write clearer website pages, answer common customer questions and improve your content, so people, search engines and AI tools can better understand what you offer. Good content helps, though no one can guarantee rankings or recommendations.

And something rather exciting: AI can take action, too!

Some AI assistants can now do more than suggest. With supported tools, a browser or connected apps, they can work through multi-step tasks, such as gathering information or preparing a draft in another app. This only works where the feature is available, and only with the permissions you give it. It's still early days, so start small and check the results.

What AI still can't do

  • It can sound confident and still be wrong, so check anything important.
  • Its knowledge may not be current unless it searches the web.
  • It can only take actions where the right tools and your permissions allow, and it can make mistakes when it does.
  • It doesn't replace advice from a doctor, lawyer, accountant or other professional.
  • It doesn't know you unless you tell it, so share only what you're comfortable with.
